Non-Player Character

Description

An NPC (non-player character) is any character who is not controlled by the player. NPCs serve a variety of functions in RPGs, from driving quests to being enemies to selling items to the player. An NPC's role depends on its specialization; some NPCs belong to more than one category of specialization.

Variables and Affordances

  • Location: where the NPC is usually located
  • Unique: whether the NPC is unique, or if there are many instances of it. For example, an enemies are NPCs who are usually not unique, as the player will typically encounter many of them over the course of the game.
